DESIGNATED DRIVER TIPS

Tips for the Designated Driver

  • Know how to find our officeContact us if you have any questions.
  • Be on time. If you are late your friend or family member will have to reschedule (and redo their prep).
  • If they use an inhaler or a CPAP machine, remind them to bring it.
  • They may be hangry (hungry-angry). Don't take it personally. In some cases, they haven't been allowed to eat for 24 hours and haven't had anything to drink for at least 4 hours.
  • Try not to eat in front of them! Whatever you do, don't offer them anything -- even a hard candy or gum or tobacco. If they have anything, they will need to reschedule.(And it can make their procedure dangerous or unclear -- red or purple food coloring can look like blood.)
  • Even though the procedure won't take that long, it will take several hours for them to complete the paperwork, be prepped, have the procedure, get to recovery, dress and be ready to go. You are an awesome friend or family member to sit and wait. They appreciate it (though they might not be clear-headed enough to say it today). We appreciate it as well. We can't start the procedure if you aren't around.
  • You will be in a separate waiting area for the Endoscopy Center. There is TV and wi-fi.
  • You might want to bring something to read.
  • If you need to make a phone call and want to step outside, please let us know where you will be.
  • If you need the restroom, just ask. We will point you in the right direction.
  • If you need to smoke, there is a designated smoking area to the left of our office. Please let someone at the front desk know where you are if you need to step out or need to get something from your vehicle.
